The achievement of the Hospital resulted in one of the most important chapters in the history of the School of Medicine and Surgery of Rio de Janeiro, the second medical school founded in Rio de Janeiro and the fourth in Brazil. With the name of Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Gaffr\u00e9e e Guinle, at the time it was the largest in the city, with 320 beds, in 1966 it was incorporated into the School of Medicine and Surgery. From 1968 onwards, it became \u201cHospital Universitario Gaffr\u00e9e e Guinle\u201d, occasion of the major renovation to be readapted as a teaching hospital. In 1979, it joined UNIRIO, currently the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, becoming part of its Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS).
