Instituto Carlos Chagas

On August 12, 1959, the Carlos Chagas Medical Graduate School was founded, with the aim of implementing Medical Graduate teaching, which until then was not regulated by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Brazil.

It was born from the idealism of a group of doctors, composed of Dr. Armindo de Oliveira Sarmento, Dr. Nelson Passarelli, Dr. Gastao Dias Veloso, Dr. Pedro Alves da Costa Couto, Dr. , professors at the traditional Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brazil.
